Aaliyah Dana Haughton - Forever An Angel

On the 16th on January 1979, Aaliyah was born to Michael and Diane Haughton, and as a little sister to Rashad. Her parents wanted to give her a unique, meaningful name and liked the name Aaliyah, which is Arabic for "highest, most exhalted one", and in her short but prosperous life, she lived up to it. Aged just 15, she recorded her first album, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number which sold 1 million copies in the US alone and spawned a string of chart hits. 2 years later, in 1996, aged 17, she released One In A Million, her second LP which sold 2 million copies. In 2000, she starred in her first feature film, Romeo Must Die alongside Jet Li. She was the female lead, Trish O'Day, and recorded 4 songs (Try Again, Come Back In One Piece (with DMX), I Don't Wanna and Are You Feelin' Me?) for the soundtrack. In 2001, she was recording her third album and filming her second movie. Her third album, the self-titled Aaliyah, was released in July 2001, and sold as well as her previous offerings, and her second film, Queen of the Damned, the film adaptation of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles cast her as Akasha, the title character. This film made #1 in the US when it was released in February 2002. Just as her star was destined to shine even brighter, her life was tragically cut short when her plane crashed on August 25, 2001 on the way back from a Bahamas video shoot. She sadly passed away with all eight of the other passengers, six of whom were her staff and loyal friends. However, since her death, she had certainly not faded from the music scene of the hearts of her fans. A Greatest Hits album, I Care 4 U was released in December 2002, and features 7 of her greatest hits and six previous unreleased songs. Word has it there is enough material for another unreleased album, and Usher and Missy Elliott are currently working on their own tribute album. We all love Aaliyah very much, and thank her dearly for what she gave us. She is a true inspiration to us all.

Any fans of Aaliyah are welcome to join this Community to pay tribute to an amazing woman and share fond memores of our BabyGirl. It was set up by teentorments on the seven week anniversary of her passing..
